Today, I’d like to get you caught up on the 2.5Mwatt wind turbine project here in Gloucester. If you’ve been following, my company in putting in one of the largest wind turbines on the eastern seaboard. On Monday, the crew was in full swing. The day’s task is to place the second tower section. The rigging is in place.
Running through the rigging and torqueing down the fasteners.
This is the last chance to clean off any marks.
Up on the first section, a layer of sealant is being applied.
The cranes are fired up and the lifting begins. The heavy lifting is being done by the lattice boom crawler crane off to the left. The yellow crane on the right controls the bottom of the tower section.
Hokey Smoke, Bullwinkle! This is the counter weight stack tender on the crawler crane!

Meanwhile, the riggers are preparing some posts to rest the load on as the rigging is adjusted.

A guide pin is placed.
And now the tower is as high as the water tower.
There are three more sections to go before the nacelle is placed on top!
We have hired an artist Jay Groccia from On Site Studios to produce a film of the construction process. Today, a clip was released of the barge coming into Gloucester Harbor and the first blade being loaded and taken up to the job site. Check it out.
